All About Me

Space... the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship... Oops, wrong story.

Do you really want to know? [Awmygawd... pliiiiz, take me away!]

Oh well then, take a deep breath:

I was born in Bombay a little boy (i still am one). Mum and dad being nice and kind souls decided to call me Neil, short and sweet and easy to pronounce. Despite that, my name gets misspelt a lot (Nil,Niel,Neal,Neel. ..Good lord !! Is it that hard to remember Neil ??). Been born a Scorpio; not that this has any bearing on who I am, but I thought it might be an interesting piece of information.Grew up with an interest in taking things apart to see how they worked. The reassembly thingie wasn't equally important. Partly because i couldn't reassemble the things anyway. Later on I would develop a curiosity in other things, the scope of which is beyond this rather "short" introduction. :-).

The younger years..

As a child I grew up in Bandra, a western suburb of Bombay, well know for its shopping streets, sea-face promenades, narrow and friendly by-lanes or "gullies" as they are locally known. I've had my share of fun growing up as a kid, playing cricket on the streets and making a nuisance of myself. Growing up with my brother Nigel was'nt easy. We had major sibbling tiffs and sqaubbles. He is one hard nut to crack and I always had to give into his tantrums and demands. He sure knew how to get his way with me. He claimed that mum always took my side and I claimed that dad had a soft-corner for him. Both naturally disagreed with us.

Growing Up... The Wonder Years

School life was fun, for 12 formative and informative years of my life. The best years so far. It was a "boys only" school and during breaks if we were'nt in the field playing cricket we could be found hanging out oggling at passing girls.
Ahh !!! Those were the days !!

The Teenage Years

By the age of 15 I was getting ready to move on to junior college. College was not anything like school but I liked being a part of a larger circle of fiends. We had our share of parties and fun and two years passed us by as fast as 104 weeks does!! Soon it was time to choose our careers that would lead us to different professions and ultimately different destinations. I chose to pursue a Computer Software Engineering course and that lead me into another dimension with an altogether different set of friends. The nerdies !!!
For four years I tried to do my best at grasping important concepts of the computer kingdom. Compilers, assemblers, Pascal, C, C++ and the list goes on and on. At the end of it I was left with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and a rather confused mind.

The Working Years

I started to work for the Informations Systems Division at Larsen & Toubro. It then separated from its parent company L&T called LTITL. My first project was for a company called TAI, based in St. Louis, MO. It was development in PERL and SYBASE and I ended up developing skills on this platform. During that period I also had the opportunity to work on UNIX (Solaris) and LINUX.
By December 1997 I was ready to take up an assignment for Sendit AB in Stockholm. Sendit has developed a system called ICSA which is used by GSM mobile phone operators to connect subscriber's devices to the Internet. It started out as a kind of e-mail to/from SMS gateway, but now it's a full Mobile-ISP server platform. I have been working here for the last one year as a consultant. Microsoft was interested in what these guys had done so Bill decided to buy out Sendit. By August 1999 Sendit no longer continued to exist and became a part of the Bill's Big World. It is now known as Microsoft Mobile Internet

The new millenium not only heralded in a new year but also found me taking up an assignment as a consultant at Samsung India Software Operations where I worked on 3G - UMTS protocol development. One year flew by quickly and soon it was time to break ties with my company in search of better oportunities.
While an old tie was being broken, another lifelong bond was appearing on the horizon, the one of my life partner to be.

The years to come...

I'll update this when I get there ... :-)
I am there right now ... and I will update this soon...

Its nearing 2007 and I still have'nt gotten to updating this section. Perhaps one of my my new year resolution could be be to do so ... :-) what say ?? Huh....
